VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Neurology team in a 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care setting. The role involves assisting with neurological patients, preparing for advanced imaging and surgeries, and supporting client communication.

The ideal candidate has experience in emergency or specialty medicine, and the position offers a full-time schedule with four 10-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience as veterinary assistant in emergency or specialty medicine.
• Ability to restrain and assist neurologic patients.
• Experience with anesthesia preparation and postoperative nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Assist neurologist with patient restraint, examinations, and treatments.
• Prepare patients for MRI, CT, CSF collection, and surgery.
• Safely move and transport patients with mobility issues.
• Maintain clean, organized treatment area and follow sanitation protocols.
• Assist with anesthesia prep, patient recovery, and post-operative nursing care.
• Record patient histories, vital signs, weights, and medical information.
• Educate clients and reinforce discharge instructions.
• Process lab samples, prepare medications and supplies, document medical records.
• Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and staff in fast-paced environment.

VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Neurology team at our 24-hour Emergency & Critical Care service.

About Us

VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists was established in West Palm Beach in 1998 and has flourished from a single-specialty practice into a full-service, multi-disciplinary, specialty-only practice.

We reside in a 32,000 sq. ft. facility that operates 24/7/365 and includes an in-house national reference laboratory, blood bank, and Education Center with a 125-seat auditorium, conference room, and meeting hall for continuing education programs. Our Advanced Imaging department offers on-site MRI, CT, C-Arm, and Linear Accelerator (Halcyon).

Our staff of Board Certified specialists includes three Surgeons, three Internists, an Emergency and Critical Care Service, a Neurosurgeon, a Radiation Oncologist, and a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner. Our doctors work closely with our nurses and technical staff to provide optimal patient care, careful client service, and open dialogue with referring veterinarians.

We are a very integrated practice that uses a team approach to case consultation and management. You will enjoy a diverse and stimulating caseload while employing the most advanced imaging and monitoring tools.

Compensation : $23.00 - $26.00 / hr based on skill set and experience.

Scheduling : Full-time, (4) ten-hour shifts

About the Role

As an experienced Veterinary Assistant, we want you to use your skills and knowledge to the fullest. Skills that you will be utilizing include, but are not limited to:

• Assist neurologist with patient restraint, examinations, and treatments for neurological patients
• Prepare patients for advanced diagnostic procedures, including MRI, CT, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collection, and surgery
• Safely handle and transport patients with mobility impairments, seizures, or spinal injuries using appropriate lifting techniques
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment and procedure area while adhering to hospital sanitation protocols
• Assist with anesthesia preparation, patient recovery, and post‑operative nursing care under veterinarian direction
• Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, weights, and other medical information accurately
• Educate and support clients by providing compassionate communication and reinforcing discharge instructions as directed by the veterinary team
• Process laboratory samples, prepare medications and supplies, and assist with medical record documentation
• Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and client service representatives to provide exceptional patient care in a fast‑paced specialty environment

We are seeking a veterinary assistant with experience in emergency or specialty medicine, or several years of experience in general practice. The flexible schedule will include some weekends and holidays. Pay is competitive, based on level of skill, experience, relevant education, and credentials.
