Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Medical Office Specialist to join our ambulatory team. The role focuses on front desk functions, patient check-in/out, scheduling, and ensuring a smooth patient experience across our locations.

You will manage demographic and insurance information, collect payments, and maintain accurate EMR data while upholding confidentiality and delivering excellent service to patients and families.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years experience in a customer service setting.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to various locations.
• Proficient computer skills including MS Office/Google Suite.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient satisfaction through friendly, helpful interactions with patients and visitors.
• Manages patient check-in/check-out processes.
• Obtains and verifies demographic information and insurance details.
• Collects copayments and balances; verifies insurance eligibility.
• Ensures referrals are obtained and paperwork is completed (ABN, HIPAA, etc.).
• Enters patient information accurately in the EMR system.
• Provides assistance to patients with e-check-in through kiosks or tablets.
• Supports scheduling, cancellations, and reconciliation in the EMR.
• Escalates issues promptly and maintains patient confidentiality.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
