Job summary

UPMC Neurological Institute - Central PA is seeking a Neurodiagnostic Technician I to support nerve conduction studies under physician supervision at multiple outpatient sites in Central Pennsylvania.

The role requires performing routine and advanced NCS on upper and lower extremities, educating patients, documenting findings, and maintaining accuracy, equipment, and safety standards in a busy clinical laboratory.

Qualifications

• Performs nerve conduction studies under physician supervision.
• Educates patients about testing procedures and procedures-related expectations.
• Documents findings accurately and maintains quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced sensory and motor nerve conduction studies of the upper and lower extremities, including F-waves, H-reflexes, and comparison studies.
• Prepare and educate patients regarding testing procedures and obtain appropriate clinical history.
• Demonstrate knowledge of peripheral nerve anatomy, neurophysiology, electrode placement, stimulation techniques, and standard nerve conduction study protocols.
• Accurately measure stimulation and recording distances and identify latency, amplitude, and conduction velocity measurements.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate extremity temperature to ensure technically accurate results.
• Recognize artifacts, technical errors, abnormal responses, and studies requiring troubleshooting or repeat testing.
• Adjust equipment settings, stimulation intensity, sensitivity, sweep duration, and waveform markers as appropriate.
• Communicate relevant patient history and technical findings to the interpreting physician.
• Complete required documentation and maintain equipment, supplies, and testing rooms.
• Follow established safety, infection prevention, patient identification, and departmental quality standards.
