Job Summary

The EEG Technologist II is an entry‑to‑mid level position in the neurophysiology department, responsible for performing electroencephalography (EEG) procedures in accordance with Emory Healthcare policy and standards. The role includes maintaining patient safety during clinically significant events, ensuring optimal recording integrity, troubleshooting equipment, and providing technical impressions of EEG recordings.

Responsibilities

• Perform rEEG, cEEG, aEEG, NCV, PET, WADA, and TILT studies following ACNS guidelines.
• Set up testing apparatus, collect patient history, and apply electrodes using 10‑20 placement guidelines.
• Monitor EEG data acquisition and video recording equipment, adjusting lighting, camera focus, and microphones for quality capture.
• Live‑monitor recordings with qEEG, identify artifacts, and execute repairs or adjustments promptly.
• Document clinically significant events and electrical EEG patterns, and communicate critical results per facility policies.
• Prune and edit master EEG files and maintain equipment cleanliness and readiness.
• Complete administrative tasks related to neurodiagnostic procedures and inventory management of supplies.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, research projects, conferences, and departmental in‑services, earning at least 10 ACE CEUs per year.
• Communicate at shift hand‑offs, providing pertinent information to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

• BLS certification as required by the American Heart Association.
• High school graduate or equivalent with basic PC and Microsoft Windows proficiency.
• Minimum of three years experience performing EEG procedures, including rEEG, cEEG, aEEG, NCV, PET, WADA, and TILT.
• Credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work under general technical supervision and transition to indirect supervision upon competency completion.

Physical Requirements (Medium)

Lifting up to 50 lbs; frequently carrying objects up to 25 lbs. Occasional to frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Close eye work involving computers, typing, reading, and writing. Requirements may vary with assigned work area.

Environmental Factors

Environmental exposures may include blood‑borne pathogens, biohazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, hot/cold temperatures, and changes in lighting. Personnel may work shift schedules and travel as required. Personal protective equipment including respirators may be necessary.
