Job summary

Description

The Neurodiagnostic ICU / LTM Specialist I is a mid‑level position in the intensive care unit. The ICU / LTM Specialist I has passed examination by ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation (ABRET) and proven competence to obtain a credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.).

  • Provides findings, results, and descriptive analysis per Emory Healthcare policy and procedure manual.
  • Performs routine ICU/cEEG under indirect technical supervision.
  • Maintains patient safety during clinically significant events.
  • Communicates technical impressions of EEGs performed and escalates clinically relevant events in real time.
  • Participates in on‑call rotation at designated locations.
  • Maintains optimal recording integrity, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs rEEG, cEEG, aEEG, and NCV.
  • Performs EEG monitoring during WADA, PET, ictal SPECT, TILT, and EcOG.
  • Sets up scalp EEG recording using the International 10‑20 (or modified 10‑10) system.
  • Performs activating procedures (hyperventilation, photic stimulation, sleep) per policy.
  • Works within the epilepsy monitoring unit team, collaborating with nurses, physicians, and other staff.
  • Observes patient with video recording equipment, ensuring camera, lighting, and microphone set appropriately.
  • Edits and prunes master EEG files.
  • Educates patient and family regarding cEEG monitoring procedure and interacts at an age‑appropriate level.
  • Documents events and pertinent history, including medications, family history, surgeries, and skull defects.
  • Monitors and maintains recording integrity, troubleshooting artifacts.
  • Communicates shift‑hand‑off information for smooth transition of care.
  • Ensures EEG equipment is clean, stocked, and ready for deployment.
  • Completes administrative tasks associated with neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Monitors par stock levels of supplies and restocks as needed.
  • Participates in research projects, conferences, in‑services, lectures, earning at least 10 ACE CEUs per year.
  • Other related duties consistent with patient and technical care for this level.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BLS certification and credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.).
  • Three or more years of experience in the neurodiagnostic field, including at least one year in LTM/ICU/cEEG monitoring.
  • Well‑developed PC knowledge and skill.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a CAAHEP accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20‑50 lbs; 0‑33% of the work day (occasionally); 11‑25 lbs, 34‑66% of the work day (frequently); 01‑10 lbs, 67‑100% of the work day (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood‑borne pathogen exposure, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.
