Job summary

The University of Georgia is seeking a Research Technician to join the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research in the Kanthasamy lab in Athens. The position supports graduate students and senior personnel, performing behavioral, neurobiochemical and histological assays, with focus on neurodegenerative disease models.

Qualifications

  • Experience and/or willingness to perform research.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, maintain accurate documentation, and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a sometimes-stressful environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills while carrying out instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, while providing consultation to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Basic computer knowledge in MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and assist in the implementation of research projects including data collection and project management. Read and develop a basic understanding of research project protocols. Maintain accurate records on every aspect of research projects. Proper disposal of biohazard waste. Perform inventory and provide basic maintenance and ordering of research supplies and equipment. Assist graduate students and other senior research personnel with their experiments. (40%)
  • Responsibilities of this position will include multiple aspects of scientific research including experimental design and execution, assay optimization and validation, data collection, and project management. Prior experience with mouse work is highly preferred. The employee will perform multiple behavioral, neurobiochemical, and histological assays. (35%)
  • Professionally communicate with the supervisor, graduate students, and research personnel concerning the affected workflow, time limitations, and project status. Write reports and present them to colleagues and supervisor. Maintain accurate records on every aspect of research project. (15%)
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. (10%)
