Job summary

Yale New Haven Health Services Corp. is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role includes patient movement, specimen collection, and responding to call lights to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited nursing assistant program; BLS certification is required. One year of medical/surgical experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing assistant program or equivalent (student nurse acceptable).
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with basic patient care under supervision of the licensed nurse; moves and lifts patients and makes beds.
• Performs specimen collections (VRE swabs, urine, stool, non-induced sputum); urine testing, hema test, enemas, ice collar/caps, or post mortem care.
• Orients patient to unit and secures valuables; responds to call lights promptly and provides assistance.
• Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
• Maintains clean and orderly patient care, storage, pantry and utility areas; distributes water pitchers; sets up equipment for admission.
• Keeps RN informed of status of work and availability for added assignments.
• Provides patient escort assistance as needed.
• Performs patient observer functions as requested.
• Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization and development as outlined in performance review.
• Performs other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
• Performs reattachment and discontinuing of telemetry units.

Education
