Job summary

Memorial Hermann in Houston is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant to support neurology and neurosurgery clinics. This role assists providers, performs examinations, basic procedures, venipuncture, vital signs, and prepares patients for exams under physician supervision.

You will maintain compliance with HIPAA/BC guidelines, handle lab procedures, and float to other clinics as needed. A medical assistant program graduate or equivalent, with certification eligibility, is required within 12

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
• Eligible for certification by AMT or AAMA or NHA or NAHP within 12 months of hire.
• Current credentials: RMA, CMA, CCMA or NRCMA within 12 months; BLS/CPR within 30 days.
• Six months of medical assistant experience required; externship accepted.
• Specialty clinic experience preferred; urgent care phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to work with diverse groups.
• Knowledge of ICD9/10 and CPT coding and insurance procedures.
• May float to other clinic practices as needed.

Responsibilities

• Delivers appropriate patient care under physician supervision.
• Assist providers with examinations and procedures, including GYN and other specialties.
• Take patient vitals, record findings, and manage EMR documentation.
• Perform venipuncture and basic lab tests per policy.
• Administer medications using the seven rights of medication administration.
• Recognize emergencies and respond promptly to patient needs.
• Maintain safety and compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, TJC, and other standards.
• Cross-train for patient access tasks and assist with phone calls to patients and pharmacies.
