Qualifications

• RN licensure in RI or NLC-compliant license.

• NIHSS certification within 3 months of hire; annual stroke-education requirement.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care.
• Demonstrates leadership by delegating, supervising and participating in safe nursing care activities.
• Evaluates effectiveness of patient care and identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinates with healthcare team, patient, family and community services for discharge planning.
• Provides patient and family teaching based on needs.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
• Uses resources to provide quality, cost-effective care.
• Maintains clinical competencies and required certifications (BLS, ACLS/PALS as appropriate).
• Serves as a role model/preceptor to new graduates and less experienced staff.
• Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as delegated.
