Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking an experienced RN to provide direct patient care on the Rhode Island Hospital unit during night shift. The role involves 12-hour shifts, every other weekend and holiday, and working under the supervision of the Clinical Manager.

You will supervise and evaluate nursing care, participate in discharge planning, patient education, and quality improvement initiatives, while maintaining licensure and NIHSS certification.

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure in Rhode Island.
• NIHSS certification within 3 months of hire.
• 8 hours of continuing stroke education required annually.
• Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.
• Knowledge to care for patients across the life span with aging considerations.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care.
• Leads by delegating, supervising and participating in safe nursing care activities.
• Evaluates effectiveness of patient care and identifies improvement opportunities.
• Collaborates with the healthcare team, patient, family and community services regarding discharge planning.
• Assesses and provides appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
• Uses resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care.
• Maintains clinical competencies per credentialing standards and safety education.
• Identifies growth needs and participates in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
• Serves as a role model/preceptor to new graduates and less experienced personnel.
• Assumes charge nurse responsibilities for the patient care unit as delegated.
