Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is hiring a Nursing Care Assistant I (CNA) for the Neuro ICU. The NA I works with RNs and LPNs to provide direct patient care, monitor patients, collect specimens, and support unit operations.

No specific education or experience required; NC NA I certification and BLS by orientation are required. Relocation assistance and a $5,000 commitment bonus are offered; Day shift and 3-12 hour shifts per week with weekends/holidays per unit guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must be listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, fraud, or misappropriation of property.
• Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the end of new hire orientation.
• No specific education or prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including bathing, feeding, grooming, dressing, toileting, ambulation, and positioning.
• Obtain and document vital signs, intake and output, blood glucose results (with appropriate training), and other patient information.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition to the RN/LPN.
• Assist nurses and providers during exams and procedures.
• Support patient admissions, discharges, and transportation.
• Collect and transport specimens and perform routine specimen testing as assigned.
• Maintain equipment, stock supplies, and ensure unit cleanliness.
• Reinforce patient education provided by nurses and providers.
• Participate in ongoing training, competency validation, and professional development.
