Job summary

The Allen Institute in Seattle seeks a Scientist I – Neural Coding to lead image processing and analysis of large-scale Electron Microscopy datasets. You will oversee EM data processing and contribute to analyses of datasets with cross-disciplinary teams, advancing brain mapping and connectomics research.

The role requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field, strong programming skills, and experience with software engineering practices; familiarity with Python and cloud computing is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Applied Math, Engineering or equivalent combination.
• Strong background in image processing.
• Strong programming skills.
• Experience with software engineering best practices (version control and code reviews).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to scale image processing of high throughput electron microscopy pipeline toward whole mouse brain datasets.
• Oversee EM data 2D stitching and 3D alignment automated pipeline.
• Work with anatomists, physiologists, theoreticians, and modelers to analyze EM data in context of cell types.
• Publish/present findings in peer-reviewed journals/conferences.
