Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Information Technology invites applications for a Network Technician (S) in the Network Support group within the DIT Service Support division. This field role covers WAN, LAN, WLAN, Security, and VoIP across a defined territory, with weekly onsite work and possible hybrid remote arrangements.

Candidates should have a High School diploma or GED with IT experience; equivalency is allowed.

Qualifications

  • ITIL, A+, Network+ and/or MCDST certifications preferred.
  • LAN or inside horizontal wiring experience preferred.
  • Formal Cisco training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with analysts and specialists to resolve incidents and problems.
  • Work with analysts and specialists to perform requested changes.
  • Install new equipment and infrastructure, which may include cabling, switches, patch panels, VoIP, firewalls, routers, and access points at customer locations.
  • Ensure required tools, cables, and hardware are available for site visits.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment implementation support.
  • Consult with clients and arrange necessary site visits.
  • Maintain standard approved IOS configurations.
  • Perform hardware configuration updates as needed.
  • Continue expanding knowledge of the services supported by the team.

The N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) serves as the Technology Center for the State of NC. Services that NCDIT provides reach a client base of state and local government agencies, as well as schools, colleges and universities. NCDIT’s mission is to enable trusted business-driven solutions that meet the needs of North Carolinians. NCDIT provides technology services to state agencies and is charged with closing the digital divide by expanding availability of broadband services and promoting the adoption of affordable, high-speed internet.

Description of Work

Salary Range: $52,812 - $79,217. This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency’s remote work program but does require weekly onsite work. Any telework will be under the conditions of the state Teleworking Program Policy and the employer may end any teleworking arrangement at any time in the employer's sole discretion. Are you ready to take the next step in your career? We’re excited to announce an opening for a Network Technician with the State of North Carolina’s Department of Information Technology (NCDIT). This position is part of the Network Support group within the DIT Service Support division. Primary duties involve providing service support for DIT offerings including WAN, LAN, WLAN, Security, and VoIP. This is a field position with a defined territory within the state. The employee will respond to incidents and requests generated by the Service Desk, NOC, network provisioning analysts, and management. Responsibilities include implementing requested changes, new installations, providing technical support, hardware and asset retirement, equipment configuration, problem resolution and analysis, and performing network and cabling assessments in accordance with established SLA guidelines. This position participates in a 24×7 on-call rotation.

About the Division

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) is the IT solutions partner for the State of North Carolina, providing technology services to state agencies, local governments, and educational institutions. Services include hosting, network and security services, telecommunications, enterprise services such as email and calendaring, centralized mainframe services, managed client/server computing, and software and technical support. The NCDIT Service Delivery organization centrally provisions services offered by NCDIT, including data, voice, and video for the State and other authorized entities. The team designs, develops, and maintains the North Carolina Information Network (NCIN), the State’s secure, multiprotocol, router-based WAN providing statewide communications to Executive Branch agencies and participating public entities. The Network Field Support unit provides onsite support statewide across services such as WAN, LAN, Security, and VoIP.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred: ITIL framework, A+, Network+ and/or MCDST certifications LAN or inside horizontal wiring experience Formal Cisco training.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of IT experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
