CompucomStaffing is hiring a Level 2 Network Technician for an onsite role in Hillsboro, OR to provide end-user support and collaborate with Level 2/3 teams. You will work in a busy data center, perform hardware installs, cabling, and asset management, while ensuring reliable connectivity and service delivery.

You will handle rack-and-stack tasks, assist with cabling, and support incidents with remote teams, while maintaining accurate asset records and following company policies.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in racking, stacking, connecting, and providing basic configuration support of networking or server devices.
  • Ability to work in a hot data center environment and on a ladder for top-of-rack installs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs and travel between buildings using personal transport.
  • Strong customer service and clear written/verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows 10; familiarity with ServiceNow is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain network environment with Smart Hands support for incidents and requests.
  • Install hardware, patch cables, and enable new services with remote teams.
  • Assist with hardware rack and stack installations and testing connectivity.
  • Receive, validate, and document hardware shipments; maintain asset records in ServiceNow.
  • Move equipment, manage cabling, and support data center operations.
  • Provide escort service for vendors/techs and follow ticket requests in ServiceNow.

Job description

Our client is currently seeking a qualified Level 2 Network Technician to join their team onsite in Hillsboro, OR and provide end-user support. This role is responsible for providing first level Smart Hands support to second level and third level support teams.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Maintain network environment in support of physical touch (Smart Hands) support of Incident and or Requests
  • Provide Service Request Support working with remote Network Support Teams to install hardware or patch cables to enable new services for customers
  • Provide incident support by working with remote Level 2/3 teams to assist in resolving outages and fixing issues including replacement of cabling or hardware components
  • Participate in Hardware Rack and Stack installation of both Network and Server equipment, cable management, and installation of required Fiber and Copper Patch leads, providing console access to Remote Team for configuration if required and testing connectivity after installation and configuration
  • Receive Hardware shipments for data center equipment landings
  • Locate and Validation of Purchase Orders, documenting accuracy of all hardware and components received
  • Updating and maintaining accurate Asset records in ServiceNow asset database
  • Unboxing and Recycling of materials
  • Move Equipment from dock to storage rooms, staging areas and or to DC racks
  • Installation or retrofitting of network/server racks - rail and shelving installation
  • Power and network cable installation and cable management
  • Scanning and Labeling of installed devices (network or server)
  • Designate parts identified for spare part stock inventory
  • Proper e-waste handling and disposal
  • Equipment shipping and receiving as needed
  • Provide Escort Service for vendors/techs
  • Work Request Tasks from ServiceNow ticket system
Skills And Qualifications
  • Higher education or degree preferred (but not required) or foreign equivalent required from an accredited institution. Will also consider 1 to 3 years of progressive experience in the specialty in lieu of every year of education
  • 2+ years of experience in racking, stacking, connecting, and providing basic configuration support of networking or server devices
  • Ability to withstand working in a hot enclosed environment for short time spans required (i.e., data center hot isles)
  • Must be able to perform work while on a ladder (use of ladders is required for top of rack installations)
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in teams of 3-4 and be flexible
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs. solo
  • Must be willing to travel between buildings using personal car/foot
  • May be required to walk/sit/stand/crawl/kneel for extended periods
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and written/verbal communication skills
  • Requires knowledge of Microsoft suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word primarily), Windows 10
  • Ability to work in datacenters, networking rooms. Should be able to communicate by telephone, email, or face to face
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge or experience in:

  • Structured Network Cabling
    • Copper: Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Connector Types - RJ45
    • Fiber: Multimode, Single Mode, Connector Types – ST, SC, LC
  • WIFI H/W
    • Wireless LAN Controllers
    • Wireless Access Points
  • Networking
    • IP Addressing, Layer 2 VLAN etc.
  • Experienced in Ethernet Switching H/W
    • Chassis, Supervisor, Line Cards, Power Supplies etc.
    • Transceiver Types – SX, LX, SR, LR etc.
  • Cable Troubleshooting Knowledge / Experience
    • Fluke Testers: Copper - Wire Map, Link Test etc., Fiber – OTDR Testing
    • Fluke Aircheck: Wireless Testing
Wage Range

The rate for this position is between $15.71 - $20.95 per hour, unless local minimum wage is higher. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
