Job summary

City of Norfolk seeks a Network Engineer III to administer and support the enterprise firewall and security infrastructure. This role focuses on NGFWs, VPNs, threat prevention, and cross-team collaboration with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams.

Required are several years of IT experience with strong knowledge of firewall, VPN, NAT, and SIEM integrations. The position is essential and operates within the City’s IT department.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of IT experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Cybersecurity or related discipline; five (5) years IT experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve cybersecurity and network issues.
• Investigate threats, malware, and intrusions.
• Design, implement, and maintain cybersecurity hardware and software.
• Operate firewalls, IPS, URL filtering, and SSL inspection.
• Coordinate changes through formal change management.
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and emergency response.
• Document SOPs and support security investigations.
• Provide clear communication to technical and non-technical audiences.
