Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Network Security Engineer to maintain efficient network operations, troubleshoot security incidents, and configure firewall infrastructure to meet enterprise standards. You will develop firewall rules, analyze threats, and assist in disaster response planning.

The role requires 3+ years in IPS/IDS, VPNs, and firewall technologies, plus Cisco Firepower knowledge, with on-call responsibilities and strong reporting abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; high school/GED with four years of relevant experience acceptable.
• 3 years hands-on experience in IPS/IDS, VPNs, firewall technologies, network security.
• Understanding of networking protocols and topologies.
• Knowledge of Cisco Firepower Firewall and routing & switching expertise.
• Ability to analyze security using tools and identify threats.

Responsibilities

• Ensure network operates efficiently with minimal downtime.
• Troubleshoot network security incidents.
• Configure and support network and firewall infrastructure.
• Develop firewall rule requirements including sources, destinations, ports, and protocols.
• Adhere to enterprise network security design standards and best practices.
• Identify root causes of incidents and provide recommendations.
• On-call 24/7 to respond to network issues and outages.
• Participate in emergency management activities during local disasters.
