Job summary

Virginia Western Community College is seeking a Network and Security Engineer to design, implement, and maintain the campus enterprise network and security posture. The role covers wired/wireless networks, WAN routing, firewalls, virtualization platforms, and related infrastructure to support instruction and emergency operations.

Qualifications

• Considerable experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure across switching, routing, WAN, wireless, and firewalls.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI Layer 2 and 3, VLANs, routing, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and traffic analysis.
• Experience configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting, and documenting enterprise network and security systems.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, intrusion detection and prevention, vulnerability management, and privileged access.
• Experience with firewall policy design, logging, and incident investigation.
• Ability to perform remote after-hours and weekend maintenance as needed.
• Demonstrated initiative, critical thinking, teamwork, and strong communication skills.
