NETWORK SECURITY ENGINEER

POSITION LOCATION

This position is available to Virginia residents as Richmond or Lynchburg, VA Hybrid in-office applicants or remote applicants residing in states/locations under Eastern or Central Standard Time: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, Vermont, West Virginia or Wisconsin.

YOUR ROLE

The Network Security Engineer is responsible for the design, management, and optimization of our edge, backbone, datacenter, and cloud networks, while ensuring the security and integrity of our systems. This individual will have expertise in Palo Alto firewall technologies, Panorama management, and Cisco networks. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing our network security infrastructure to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our organization’s data and systems.

What you will be doing

  • Assist in network security projects and processes, such as micro segmentation and SASE deployments, compliance monitoring, troubleshooting, and new product evaluation and deployment.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain Palo Alto Networks firewalls to enforce network security policies.
  • Implement and manage advanced firewall features such as application-based policies, URL filtering, threat prevention, and user identification.
  • Monitor firewall logs and alerts to detect and respond to security incidents and threats.
  • Utilize Panorama and Strata Cloud Manager for centralized management of Palo Alto Networks firewalls, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the network.
  • Create and maintain device groups, templates, and policy rules.
  • Perform software upgrades, patches, and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Ensure secure and seamless connectivity for remote users and branch offices through SASE/SSE solutions.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of network security controls and policies, making recommendations for improvements and optimizations.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in network security engineering or architecture.
  • Robust knowledge of security technologies including Palo Alto firewalls, RADIUS, VPN, etc.
  • Experience with Cisco networking technologies.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, IPsec, etc.
  • Experience with security management and orchestration tools such as Tufin or ServiceNow.
  • Ability to quickly understand and take ownership of network security toolsets.
  • Experience in cloud networking in AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience with Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Prisma Access SSE architecture or engineering experience.
  • CASB and NAC implementation and operations experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a distributed team in multiple time zones.
  • CISSP and Palo Alto certifications.

The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $ 96,600 up to the maximum of $181,200. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 15% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
