Job summary

Lake Mountain School District is seeking a Network Information Security Engineer/Analyst for a 10-month contract to protect district networks, servers, devices, and data. Purpose Statement

The Network Information Security Engineer/Analyst is responsible for protecting the district's network, servers, devices, technology services, systems, and data. This position supports the district's information security program through network security monitoring, threat hunting, vulnerability assessment, security hardening, incident investigation, security policy development, and implementation of security best practices. The position works closely with Technology leadership, IT support staff, and district personnel to identify and mitigate security risks while maintaining the availability and reliability of district technology services.

Essential Functions
  • Monitors network, server, endpoint, email, and security systems to identify vulnerabilities, suspicious activity, and potential security threats.
  • Performs network threat hunting and security analysis to identify indicators of compromise, unusual activity, and potential attack paths.
  • Investigates, documents, and assists with the response and remediation of cybersecurity incidents and security breaches.
  • Conducts security assessments and testing of network infrastructure, servers, applications, endpoints, and other technology systems; analyzes findings and recommends appropriate remediation.
  • Performs security assessments and hardening of servers, switches, routers, wireless infrastructure, endpoints, and other network-connected devices.
  • Recommends security configurations, protocols, access controls, and security requirements for technology systems and solutions being evaluated or purchased by the district.
  • Advises Technology leadership on cybersecurity risks, security controls, network architecture, and best practices related to district systems and data.
  • Works with IT support staff to monitor enterprise systems, network traffic, and other threat vectors for vulnerabilities or potential compromise.
  • Supports the security of district user accounts, permissions, authentication systems, email, antivirus/endpoint protection, malware prevention, and other security services.
  • Maintains accurate security-related documentation and records, including access permissions, system configurations, security assessments, incident records, licenses, and audit documentation.
  • Develops and maintains security procedures, technical documentation, reports, recommendations, and other written materials.
  • Researches current and emerging cybersecurity technologies, threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices and makes recommendations based on district needs.
  • Provides security guidance, training, and technical assistance to IT staff and other district personnel.
  • Serves as an advisor to the Student Data Security Committee and provides guidance regarding the protection and appropriate handling of student and district data.
  • Responds to security-related requests and inquiries from district personnel and provides technical guidance, troubleshooting, and recommendations.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and professional development activities related to information technology and cybersecurity.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Relevant professional experience in network security, cybersecurity, network administration, systems administration, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of network infrastructure, servers, endpoints, operating systems, firewalls, wireless networks, identity and access management, email security, and endpoint protection.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, vulnerability management, threat detection, threat hunting, incident response, and security hardening.
  • Ability to analyze security risks, troubleshoot complex technical issues, investigate incidents, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate technical and security concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate documentation, and exercise sound judgment when handling security-related matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive, student, and district information.
Certifications, Licenses & Clearances
  • CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or other relevant cybersecurity certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability.
  • Successful completion of required pre-employment testing, fingerprinting, background clearance, and applicable security/CJIS training.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in cybersecurity and information technology.
Responsibility

This position works under limited supervision and is expected to exercise independent judgment when evaluating security risks, investigating incidents, and recommending solutions. The position may lead, guide, or coordinate the work of other IT personnel on security-related initiatives. The position has the potential to significantly impact the security, availability, and integrity of district technology systems and data.

Work Environment

The position is performed primarily in a technology and office environment. Job functions may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine-finger dexterity. The position generally requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking and is performed in a generally hazard-free and clean environment.

Experience

Job-related experience in information security, network security, systems administration, network administration, cybersecurity, or a closely related field is required.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant professional experience may be considered. Required Testing, Certifications, and Licenses

  • Pre-employment proficiency testing as required by the district.
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification preferred.
  • CISSP or other advanced cybersecurity certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability.
Continuing Education / Training / Clearances
  • Ongoing professional development in cybersecurity, network security, data protection, and related technologies.
  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) training, when applicable.
  • Fingerprint and background clearance as required by the district.
