Job summary

POLYTECH School District is seeking a Network and Systems Engineer to maintain and secure the district's network, servers, virtualization (VMware), and applications, with emphasis on Infinite Campus integration and data reporting.

The role reports to the IT Supervisor and includes planning for equipment replacement, managing network switches, firewalls, VoIP, and security systems. A Bachelor's degree and 3+ years in IT required; 261-day calendar; salary DOE.

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in network management, systems support, or a related technology field, preferably in a K-12 environment.
  • Experience supporting a student information system, specifically Infinite Campus is preferred.

POLYTECH School District is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Network and Systems Engineer. This position reports to the IT Supervisor and is responsible for supporting and maintaining the District's network, servers, technology systems, and applications. The position will also provide support for Infinite Campus, pupil accounting, student data, and required reporting needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the District's physical and virtual servers, including VMware.
  • Complete server, operating system, storage, and other system updates.
  • Manage server permissions, backups, antivirus, malware protection, and other security tools.
  • Monitor servers and systems to make sure they are secure and operating properly.
  • Assist with planning for the replacement of servers, network equipment, and other technology.
  • Manage and support network switches, wireless networks, firewalls, content filtering, and related equipment.
  • Support the District's digital and VoIP phone systems.
  • Support security cameras, building access systems, and related technology.
  • Manage desktop imaging, software deployment, and device management.
  • Troubleshoot network, server, hardware, software, and application issues.
  • Manage and support web-based and network applications.
  • Maintain secure data transfers between District systems and outside applications.
  • Provide support for the District's Infinite Campus Student Information System.
  • Support pupil accounting, student enrollment, student data, and required reporting needs.
  • Assist with Infinite Campus setup, troubleshooting, user access, reports, imports, exports, and data corrections.
  • Review student data for accuracy and help correct issues that may affect pupil accounting or required reporting.
  • Support data transfers between Infinite Campus and District, state, and other educational systems.
  • Assist with required student data reporting and related pupil accounting processes.
  • Maintain user accounts, permissions, and appropriate system access.
  • Maintain records of technology equipment, network connections, systems, and replacement needs.
  • Assist with technology projects and track major project deadlines and progress.
  • Work with vendors as needed to install, repair, upgrade, or troubleshoot District systems.
  • Plan and schedule system maintenance to limit interruptions to staff and students.
  • Assist other technology staff with technical issues and projects as needed.
  • Communicate technology changes, outages, and expectations to staff in a professional manner.
  • Protect confidential student, employee, and District information.
  • Administer communication systems.
  • Administer and provide continued support for in-house PHP/MySQL Self Service Portal and related applications
  • Manage and support auditorium light and sound boards
  • Provide advanced audio-visual support for the Broadcast Media program including video switching technology (Tri-caster)
  • Provide advanced support for CTE program applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (i.e. computer science, software engineering, electronic engineering) from a regionally accredited 4-year college or university.

Licensure and Certification: Relevant IT engineering and networking certification(s) are preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years' three years of experience in network management, systems support, application support, or a related technology field, preferably in a K-12 environment.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience providing application support.

Experience supporting a student information system, specifically Infinite Campus is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to regularly handle, move, install, and set up laptops, computers, monitors, printers, network equipment, and other technology devices.
  • Ability to lift and carry technology equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in different positions while installing or servicing technology equipment.
  • Ability to run, pull, and organize network and other low-voltage cabling as needed.
  • Ability to work above or below desks, in equipment rooms, network closets, and other areas where technology equipment is located.
  • Ability to use ladders or step stools when necessary to access equipment, cabling, wireless access points, cameras, and other technology.
  • Ability to regularly use computers, hand tools, and other equipment necessary to install, maintain, and repair technology systems.
  • Ability to move throughout the district and work areas as needed.
  • May occasionally be required to perform technology work outside of normal working hours for system maintenance, upgrades, installations, or other operational needs.

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a full time, benefit-eligible position twelve-month (261-day) position.
  • This position reports to the Technology Coordinator.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Background Check, TB Test, and Child Protection Registry Clearance must be completed prior to start of employment.
  • Salary will be calculated in accordance with the verified educational level and work experience of the selected candidate and in accordance with the district's salary scale.
  • Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
