Job summary

OpenAI's Network Engineering team is building and operating the global networks that connect offices, labs, campuses, and cloud environments. You will design, implement, and optimize secure, scalable networks, balancing reliability, security, and automation while supporting incidents and time-sensitive delivery.

You will partner across IT, Security, AppEng, Research, and workplace teams to shape architecture, standards, and roadmaps, using IaC and telemetry to drive improvements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing and operating enterprise networks using major vendor platforms.
• Strong routing and switching fundamentals including BGP, OSPF, VLAN/VRF, WAN and Internet edge.
• Production troubleshooting across packets, logs, telemetry, configurations and circuits.
• Experience with network observability tools such as SNMP, NetFlow, ELK or Grafana.
• Automation using Python, Go, Terraform, Ansible, APIs, Git and CI/CD.
• Experience with enterprise wireless and cloud/hybrid connectivity.
• Clear communication and ability to own outcomes across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate secure, scalable networks across offices, labs, campuses and cloud.
• Set strategic direction for network services with architecture, roadmaps and standards.
• Own production operations including on-call, incidents, and time-sensitive delivery.
• Use telemetry and incident data to drive automation and safer operating standards.
• Develop dashboards and health checks for visibility into network performance.
• Lead network changes, migrations, and service improvements end-to-end.
• Collaborate with security and identity teams to apply least privilege and Zero Trust.
