Overview

GBSI is seeking an Information Technology (IT) professional for the role of Senior Network Engineer (S-NET) in Landover, MD. The Senior Network Engineer will provide design and upgrade efforts encompassing the network infrastructure across a large-scale enterprise IT program.

Responsibilities

1. Review and analyze existing network architecture and provide designs for current/modern WAN/MAN/LAN technologies.
2. Recommend best practices such as SDN, intent-based networking, and network segmentation protocols to improve architecture and meet new networking requirements.
3. Design telecommunications circuit specifications.
4. Identify the need for routers, switches, and encryption devices to support enterprise services.
5. Deliver service catalog items for automatically provisioning network configurations to enable Infrastructure-as-Code.
6. Develop and maintain network architecture specifications and artifacts.
7. Design and plan network communication systems.
8. Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
9. Conduct cost/benefit analyses and recommend hardware/software solutions, implementation techniques, and tools to meet current and future capacity needs.
10. Test network designs.
11. Monitor network hardware operations to ensure proper configuration.
12. Plan implementation of network enhancements and upgrades.
13. Advise network users on hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations.
14. Maintain technical expertise in network and hardware/software interconnection and interfacing devices.
15. Evaluate and report on new communication technologies to enhance network capabilities.

Qualifications

• LEVEL II: Bachelor's degree in a related field with 2-5 years of experience; or Master's degree with 0-2 years; or 8-10 years of experience with no degree.
• LEVEL III: Bachelor's degree with 5-8 years of experience; or Master's degree with 3-5 years; or a PhD with 0-2 years.
• Information Assurance Certifications aligned with 8570 IAT Level III (e.g., CASP CE, CISA, CISSP).
• Active TS/SCI clearance at start.
• Minimum 3 years of Cisco experience with expertise in routers, switches, firewalls, and unified communications equipment.
• Experience with VMware environments.
• Experience with IP and Fiber Channel networks and routing protocols.
• Experience designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN and low bandwidth networks with encryptors.
• Professional certifications in Cisco, VMware, and/or ITIL are preferred.
