Job description

GCI's Network Engineer III will apply engineering principles to multiple sub-groups within the Technology Solutions internal departments; responsible for architectural design, development, implementation, and support within the company and/or between business departments that follow telecommunication industry standards using engineering principles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS:

  1. Ensures the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance in design, implementation, and support.
  2. Understands GCI standard engineering concepts of availability, efficiency, redundancy, scalability, and security.
  3. Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of current network and/or systems facilities.
  4. Maximizes performance using network monitoring tools, troubleshooting outages, scheduling updates, and collaborating on optimization.
  5. Maintains professional skillset through education, technical organizations, publications, and personal technology use.
  6. Provides detailed reports on network status and project milestones.
  7. Supports remote sites for off-site personnel and customers.
  8. Coordinates with project management and engineering teams; supports escalation events; updates documentation; mentors junior engineers and technicians.

Additional Job Requirements:

This senior-level role involves complex duties under deadlines, designing and implementing networks across departments, making independent decisions, reviewing engineering designs, and mentoring junior staff. Must understand high availability, redundancy, security, and standards. Strong time management is essential.

Essential Duties:

  • Designs and implements complex projects using telco engineering principles.
  • Defines KPIs, updates operational documentation, and trains staff.
  • Collaborates on future architecture and planning; supports sales with technical expertise.
  • Mentors junior engineers and manages escalations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Relevant experience and/or education to perform duties; a combination may substitute for years of experience.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Technologies, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • At least six (6) years of progressive engineering experience in IT, design, and project management within telecommunications or related fields.

Preferred:

  • Experience in telecommunications industry.
  • Certifications related to telecom or engineering.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional travel required for site visits and meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily sedentary; requires computer use.
  • Ability to work shifts, in office/home environment, and operate office equipment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Physical agility for job duties.
  • Judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Availability for additional hours as needed.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Remote work compliance required.
