Job summary

Bluebird Fiber is seeking a Network Engineer I to plan and implement changes to the optical DWDM transport and routed IP platforms. You will support the Network Operations Center and participate in on-call rotations with the Network Engineering team in our Kansas City office.

This role requires strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to troubleshoot complex networks while maintaining high availability. The position offers full-time employment with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

5–7 years in Telecommunications/IP-MPLS-Ethernet environment or equivalent
Experience in transport LAN/WAN data networks and network management
Experience with equipment configuration programming
College/Technical degree or equivalent
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated with independent decision making
Customer-focused

Responsibilities

Design and deploy core IP network solutions for scale, cost efficiency, and high availability
Ability to design and implement Layer 1–3 network solutions
Develop circuit deployment standards and implementation procedures
Plan and oversee core network change management and testing plans
Monitor core links for performance and security issues
Develop network policies for traffic engineering
Lead troubleshooting of outages and mitigation solutions
Escalate customer and service impairments
Assist in design and provisioning of multi-location networks
Publish network diagrams and architecture standards
