Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to implement and support the agency's IT network infrastructure. This role involves day-to-day support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of enterprise networking technologies, requiring in-depth, hands-on expertise across routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems.
Responsibilities
- Set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers.
- Identify and diagnose system problems using line monitors, diagnostic software, and test equipment.
- Work closely with IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather and validate requirements, specifications, and configurations.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime.
- Oversee installation, documentation, and upgrades of agency facility data network infrastructure.
- Collaborate with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations.
- Provide documentation including network architecture topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls.
- Work independently on assigned projects.
Required Skills & Certifications
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- 8+ years demonstrated ability to design, install, and troubleshoot local- and wide-area enterprise networks.
- 8+ years of direct hands-on engineering and design experience in the networking industry.
- 8+ years' experience monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security, architecture policies, and standards.
- 8+ years' experience creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance.
- 8+ years' experience with performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery.
- 8+ years' experience creating network diagrams using industry-standard tools (e.g., Visio).
- 8+ years' experience with networking protocols/features including ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, BRI/PRI, MPLS.
- Industry-standard networking certification required (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA-Junos).
- Must physically reside in the US for the duration of the assignment (offshore contractors prohibited).
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- 3+ years' experience working with SDWAN.
- 3+ years' experience with network topology related to Cloud.
- 3+ years familiarity/experience with cloud networking.
