Job description

Description

Evans is hiring a Network Engineer to join one of its growing contracts supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role will support the deployment of an air traffic support system in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment and serve as a key technical resource during network installation, integration, testing, and commissioning activities. The ideal candidate should be comfortable performing network diagnostics, coordinating site readiness requirements, supporting field deployment teams both remotely and on-site, and collaborating with telecommunications providers, local administrators, and engineering stakeholders to ensure successful system implementation.

Location details:

This role is mostly remote with approximately 20% domestic travel anticipated to support FAA site installations, network integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and deployment activities. Travel will also include occasional on-site visits at the Department of Transportation Headquarters in Washington D.C. and the FAA Headquarters in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

  • Provide technical support for network deployment, integration, and commissioning activities, including configuration validation, connectivity testing, troubleshooting, and fault isolation in support of mission‑critical air traffic systems.

  • Serve as a primary technical resource during live deployments and cutovers, guiding field personnel, supporting implementation activities remotely and on-site, participating in technical bridge calls, and ensuring adherence to established change‑control and deployment procedures.

  • Coordinate site readiness and deployment requirements by maintaining implementation trackers, validating prerequisites, tracking telecommunications circuit delivery and testing, resolving dependencies, and escalating risks or blockers to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams, telecommunications providers, local site personnel, and project teams to investigate and resolve network and infrastructure issues while supporting operational continuity throughout the deployment lifecycle.

  • Support hardware installation, infrastructure integration, commissioning, and documentation efforts by validating equipment readiness, maintaining deployment records, capturing test results, and providing status updates to project and engineering leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, including Systems, Aviation, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental, Computer, Industrial, or Human Factors Engineering, consistent with contractual requirements.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting networking, IT infrastructure, systems integration, field deployments, or technical support activities. Experience supporting enterprise network environments and infrastructure deployments is highly desired. A Master's degree may substitute for up to three years of experience, and a Ph.D. may substitute for up to three years of experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including IPv4 addressing and subnetting, switching and routing fundamentals, VLANs, TCP/UDP protocols, ACLs, and common network services. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network issues using structured diagnostic methodologies.

  • Experience working with network infrastructure technologies, including Cisco IOS/IOS-XE environments, and utilizing Windows and Linux tools for system diagnostics, configuration validation, and operational support.

  • Ability to support hardware staging, installation, integration, and commissioning activities, including validating physical connectivity, equipment readiness, firmware updates, and implementation procedures.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide technical guidance, document troubleshooting activities, coordinate with cross‑functional stakeholders, and manage assigned deployment workflows through completion.

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.

  • Experience supporting Federal Government, FAA, or other highly available and mission‑critical operational environments.

  • Experience coordinating with telecommunications providers and supporting structured deployment, installation, or change management activities.

  • Familiarity with federal cybersecurity and compliance frameworks, including NIST, FISMA, or FedRAMP.

  • Exposure to network automation tools, scripting languages such as Python, and cloud or hybrid networking concepts.
