Job summary

Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Cisco Network Engineer for an onsite role in Greensboro, NC. The assignment is a 6-month contract with strong extension potential and a Monday–Friday first-shift schedule.

Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise LAN/WAN networks, configuring Cisco gear, and administering Palo Alto firewalls. Strong collaboration with security and systems teams is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
• Hands-on Cisco routing, switching, VLANs, WAN and VPN experience.
• Experience configuring Palo Alto firewalls and policy management.
• Strong network security principles and traffic-flow analysis.
• Experience with firewalls, VPNs and secure network segmentation.
• Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Apex Systems is looking to hire an ONSITE Cisco Network Engineer for our client based out of Greensboro, NC.

This assignment is anticipated to be a 6‑month contract with strong potential for extension; however, Apex Systems cannot guarantee the length of this assignment.

This will also have a first‑shift Monday–Friday schedule.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure supporting both LAN and WAN environments.
• Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco networking equipment, including routers, switches, and wireless solutions.
• Administer and support next‑generation firewall solutions, with a focus on Palo Alto platforms and security policies.
• Monitor network performance, availability, and security, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
• Support network segmentation, routing, switching, and firewall rule design to meet performance and security requirements.
• Perform network upgrades, patches, and configuration changes in accordance with change‑management processes.
• Collaborate with security, systems, and application teams to support infrastructure initiatives and integrations.
• Troubleshoot complex network and connectivity issues across multiple environments.
• Contribute to network documentation, standards, and best‑practice development.
• Participate in architecture discussions and provide input on future network and security enhancements.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Cisco networking technologies (routing, switching, VLANs, WAN, VPN).
• Proven experience configuring and supporting Palo Alto firewalls, including policy management and troubleshooting.
• Solid understanding of network security principles and traffic‑flow analysis.
• Experience working with firewalls, VPNs, and secure network segmentation.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
