Job description

This is a 12-month contract position for a Network Engineer located in Cleveland, Ohio. You will manage, plan, secure, and implement networking and telecommunications infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless equipment, firewalls, and related systems. You will serve as the chief configurator for 50+ wide-area network (WAN) sites and work collaboratively with the Systems Administration Lead Technician to maintain vendor relationships and research emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide network and telecommunications system administration, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of data, voice, video, and cellular services.
• Monitor all networks and central telecommunication systems for maximum availability and performance.
• Administer and manage network security, including firewalls and resource monitoring.
• Perform performance tuning and capacity planning to enhance network resource performance.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
• Assess and troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware, software applications, and telecommunication systems, working toward rapid resolution.
• Perform routine backups and archival of system configurations to support disaster recovery.
• Establish and manage interconnections between networks and external entities.
• Work with Systems Administration Lead Technician to implement and maintain network security policies.
• Coordinate with Systems Administration Lead Technician and Building Trades division on implementation of new and modified networking infrastructure (wired and wireless) across the organization.
• Research and evaluate the latest technologies applicable to current and future data, voice, and video infrastructure needs and goals.
• Monitor emerging trends and technologies in data and voice systems, including video conferencing.
• Evaluate vendor proposals and solutions; suggest new technologies for organizational use.
• Meet with other departments to assess their needs and alignment with overall system objectives.
• Train users on networking, phones (including cellular and smartphones), voicemail, and video conferencing.
• Consult with outside vendors on telecommunications, computing, hardware, software, and related matters in a timely and professional manner.
• Provide on-call technical support, including nights and weekends.
• Maintain operating systems and security software on the network; manage user accounts and access privileges.
• Install and coordinate installation of computers, network equipment, phones, and cabling for voice, video, and data transmission services.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement safety-related procedures and training as needed; carry out duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Respond to hazardous situations and unsafe conditions by taking corrective action and notifying supervision.
• Prepare written reports, memos, and letters documenting activities and conveying information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Required
  • Four or more recent years of hands-on experience in data network design and management utilizing Cisco routers and switches, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and implementation in a multi-site environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation, configuration, and administration of firewalls, wireless networks, and broadband services.
  • Demonstrated PC proficiency.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills.
  • Working technical knowledge of current telecommunications practices, protocols, and principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license with a good driving record (fewer than six active points at the application stage).
• Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a computer-related field.
  • Cisco Unified Wireless experience, including configuration of wireless LAN controllers.
  • Demonstrated experience with current and legacy voice, data, and video technologies, including data/voice/video
