Qualifications

• 10+ years of enterprise network engineering and network design experience.

• Strong experience with BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, VRFs, HSRP, STP, QoS, multicast, and route redistribution.
• Hands-on with Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, and ACI; enterprise cloud networking in AWS and Azure.
• Experience with network security, VPN/IPSec, ACLs and firewalls.
• Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, APIs, and/or Terraform.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, architecture, and technical design skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, configure, troubleshoot, and optimize large-scale LAN/WAN networks using BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and related protocols.
• Develop High-Level and Low-Level designs, standards, and configuration guides.
• Plan capacity, performance, lifecycle management, and modernization of network infrastructure.
• Support WAN/SD-WAN environments including MPLS, Ethernet, Internet, and dark fiber.
• Troubleshoot latency, packet loss, jitter, routing, and carrier issues.
• Collaborate with carriers and vendors on circuit design, provisioning, and troubleshooting.
• Design and support Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, and ACI data center environments.
• Design connectivity between on-premises environments and AWS/Azure via Direct Connect/ExpressRoute/VPN.
• Develop network automation using Python, Ansible, APIs, and Terraform.
• Maintain accurate network inventory and CMDB information.
• Prepare MOPs, implementation/test plans, rollback procedures, diagrams, and documentation.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Network Design Engineer with 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and modernizing large-scale enterprise network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have expert-level experience with Cisco networking, LAN/WAN, routing, switching, SD-WAN, data center networking, cloud connectivity, network security, and network automation. The role will support a large, geographically distributed transportation environment including corporate offices, rail and bus locations, stations, operational facilities, and data centers.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, configure, troubleshoot, and optimize large-scale LAN/WAN networks. Design complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 network environments using BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, VRFs, HSRP, STP, QoS, multicast, and route redistribution.
• Design and support highly available and geographically distributed network infrastructure.
• Develop High-Level Designs (HLD), Low-Level Designs (LLD), network standards, engineering specifications, and configuration standards.
• Perform network capacity planning, performance analysis, lifecycle management, and modernization.
• Design and support enterprise WAN and SD-WAN environments using MPLS, Ethernet, Internet, broadband, EPL/EVPL, wavelength, and dark fiber.
• Troubleshoot latency, packet loss, jitter, routing, carrier, and application-performance issues.
• Work with telecommunications carriers and vendors on circuit design, provisioning, implementation, and troubleshooting.
• Design and support Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, and Cisco ACI data center environments.
• Support data center migrations, consolidation, relocation, modernization, and data center interconnect initiatives.
• Design and support high-speed 10G/40G/100G/400G network connectivity and optical networking environments.
• Implement network segmentation using VLANs, VRFs, ACLs, firewalls, VPNs, and IPSec.
• Support modern network security architectures including Zero Trust and SASE.
• Design and troubleshoot connectivity between on-premises environments and AWS/Azure using Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, VPN, and cloud networking services.
• Use network monitoring and observability tools such as SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, ServiceNow, Wireshark, and packet analyzers for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Develop network automation solutions using Python, Ansible, APIs, and Terraform.
• Maintain accurate network inventory and CMDB information.
• Perform complex production troubleshooting and provide detailed root‑cause analysis.
• Support network connectivity for CCTV, voice, building systems, monitoring systems, and other IP‑based operational infrastructure.
• Prepare MOPs, implementation plans, test plans, rollback procedures, network diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Participate in technical design reviews and identify risks, dependencies, capacity limitations, and potential single points of failure.
