Overview
The Networks Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, documenting, and implementing core network routing and switching solutions across datacenter and co-location environments.
This role focuses on stability, automation, innovation, and operational excellence, supporting large-scale enterprise networks across WAN, LAN, and datacenter fabric environments.
The engineer will support overlay/underlay network technologies, participate in strategic network upgrades, and provide operational support including on-call coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, and implement core network routing and switching infrastructure across datacenter and co-location environments.
- Engineer and operate EVPN-VXLAN overlay and underlay network environments across multiple platforms.
- Support enterprise infrastructure teams by implementing new network hardware and upgrading existing platforms.
- Perform code certification, coordinate network changes, and ensure adherence to security and change-management processes.
- Provide operational support, troubleshoot complex issues, and participate in on-call rotation.
- Configure and troubleshoot routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and VRF.
- Configure and support switched protocols including PVST, RPVST, HSRP/VRRP.
- Utilize monitoring tools and protocols including SNMP, Syslog, and Telemetry.
- Document complex architectures and topologies using Visio and similar tools.
- Utilize scripting languages (Python, Bash, Ansible) for network automation and interacting with REST APIs.
- Implement code upgrades, hotfixes, and patches from network hardware vendors.
- Provide technical assistance for outages, performance issues, and high-impact incidents.
- Work with observability and monitoring systems to ensure network health and reliability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Experience engineering and supporting large-scale enterprise network infrastructures.
- Strong hands-on experience with EVPN-VXLAN overlay networks and troubleshooting.
- Expert knowledge configuring and supporting HPE and Cisco networking platforms.
- Experience with routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, VRF.
- Experience with switching technologies: PVST, RPVST, HSRP/VRRP.
- Knowledge of network services including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and SSH.
- Strong skill set in scripting and automation technologies (Python, Bash, Ansible, REST APIs).
- Familiarity with observability/monitoring systems and telemetry.
- Ability to implement vendor code upgrades, hotfixes, and firmware patches.
- Strong documentation skills, including the ability to diagram architectures and workflows.
- Strong communication, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to participate in on-call rotations and support high-availability environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field; or 8+ years of equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with datacenter network design and support.
- Experience with distributed, global WAN and LAN environments.
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture and large-scale infrastructure modernization.
Certifications
- Cisco certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE (preferred).
