Job summary

SMS DATA PRODUCTS GROUP, INC. seeks a WAN Administrator to sustain AFCENT Enterprise Network 24/7. Responsibilities include troubleshooting BGP/OSPF/EIGRP, IP/MPLS, and coordinating outages with government partners to ensure mission readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 247 WAN transport operations support.
  • Troubleshoot WAN/LAN protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
  • Configure and monitor IP/MPLS backbone networks.
  • Assist with WAN transport system installation/configuration.
  • Develop testing and cutover plans for AFCENT WAN equipment.
  • Establish remote monitoring procedures for reliability.
  • Collect networking metrics for performance analysis.
  • Identify and address substandard network performance.
  • Provide first-level AFCENT user support.
  • Consult with government to optimize WAN transport.
  • Assess outage impact and coordinate resolutions.
  • Notify outages per policy and SOPs.
  • Support daily AFCENT status reporting.
  • Provide general networking, LAN, WAN support.
  • Support O&M and documentation efforts.
  • Assist with meetings and briefings.
  • Provide training support as needed.
  • Support OCONUS/CONUS TDY travel requirements.

Job description

SMS is looking for a Wide Area Network WAN Administrator to support AFCENT Enterprise Network 247 communication efforts ensuring the reliable maintenance and operation of WAN transport in theater for AFCENT team members and customers to execute their operational missions AFCENTs mission is to deliver combat ready air space communications and cyberspace capability for USCENTCOM helping maintain security and stability throughout Southwest Asia We support the AFCENT Commander USCENTCOM coalition and joint partners and warfighters who rely on NIPRNet SIPRNet partner networks and other command and control systems The AFCENT NOSC program is focused on running and protecting a 247 enterprise network and systems operations including cybersecurity engineering maintenance and technical support keeping the AFCENTs theater communications and IT infrastructure ready secure and available to effectively execute the AFCENT mission Since 1976 SMS has specialized in modernizing legacy IT and sustaining complex enterprise environments for federal agencies With the goal of building long term partnerships with our customers we invest in our employees by providing the training tools and support they need to keep critical missions operational improve performance and reduce risk SMS is headquartered in McLean Virginia with offices and on site operations at customer locations throughout the United States For additional information on SMS visit wwwsmscom

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide 247 WAN Transport Operations Support
  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions with LANWAN protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol BGP Open Shortest Path First OSPF and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol EIGRP
  • Configure monitor and trouble shoot IPMPLS backbone network
  • Assist with the installation and configuration of existing and new WAN transport systems as directed
  • Develop standardized testing and cutover plans for AFCENT WAN new equipment
  • Establish testing and remote monitoring procedures to ensure reliable operation of WAN transport in theater
  • Collect networking metrics for analysis to determine sub standard network performance both remotely and locally
  • Analyze a myriad of networking metrics and recognize sub par network performance
  • Configuring and troubleshooting QOS involving policing shaping and queuing
  • Report system and network documented finds for analysis and trending of bandwidth and network security incidents
  • Provide first level technical support to AFCENT users escalates complex problems as required
  • Act as a consultant and provide feedback to the government to optimize the WAN transport networks
  • Identify and evaluate the operational impact of all outages
  • Coordinate with external agencies for outage resolution as required by local policy
  • Perform notifications when outages occur IAW local policies notification matrix and any other SOPs policy and instructions
  • Support creation of daily AFCENT communication status report as required
  • Provide General Networking support
  • Provide LAN support
  • Provide WAN Enterprise support
  • Provide technical and general O&M support as required
  • Provide documentationreports support as required
  • Provide meetingsbriefings support as required
  • Provide functional training support as required

Required Qualifications
  • 3 or more years relevant experience
  • Firewall experience
  • LAN and WAN Enterprise support experience
  • Must possess experience and demonstrate an understanding of Microsoft server installation roles active directory storage performance management and maintenance
  • Certifications Required CCNA ITIL Foundation candidate has up to 60 days to acquire ITIL Foundation certification
  • Clearance Required Department of Defense Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance
