Job summary

The Steamship Authority is seeking an experienced Network Administrator to support and manage our data communication systems, including data, voice, and internet services. You will install, configure, and maintain network hardware such as firewalls, routers, switches, and VoIP servers, and manage DNS/DHCP, VPN, and LAN/WAN connectivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in enterprise data communications networks.
• Experience configuring layer 2/3 switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless access points.
• Strong knowledge of network protocols, architecture and infrastructure management.
• Familiarity with security, data privacy, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities

Job description

Network Administrator DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports and manages

all aspects of Steamship Authority?s data communication systems

including but not limited to data, voice, and internet services.

Installs, configures and maintains, network hardware and software, such

as firewalls, routers, layer 2 and layer 3 network switches, wireless

access points, VoIP devices and servers. Configures, maintains and

manages the following network components: VoIP phone system and

components, DNS/DHCP, VPN and LAN/WAN connectivity. Manages

infrastructure cabling and equipment within the MDF, IDF and various

Steamship Authority facilities and terminals. Monitors network

performance, analyzes traffic, and troubleshoots issues to ensure

optimal connectivity and reliability. Implements and maintains network

security measures, including access controls, firewalls, and data

backup/recovery protocols. Coordinates network access, managing user

accounts, permissions, and passwords. Supports network infrastructure

upgrades, tests new equipment, and assists in network architecture

design. Collaborates with IT staff and vendors to resolve complex

network problems and ensure proper escalation during outages. Provides

technical support and training to staff on network usage and

troubleshoots IT issues. Participates in disaster recovery operations to

restore network functionality after major failures. Responds to

off-hours service impacting incidents, as needed. Performs other related

duty as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor?s degree in computer

science, computer information systems or related field of study, or

Equivalent Experience Required. Minimum Five (5) Years Professional

experience managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise data

Communications Networks Required. Minimum Five (5) Years Professional

experience configuring layer 2 and layer 3 network switches, firewalls,

VPN appliances and wireless access points required. Proficiency in

network protocols, network architecture, and infrastructure management

required. Knowledge of operating systems, database systems, and network

diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds required. Familiarity with network

security, data privacy, and backup/recovery methods. Strong analytical,

organizational, and communication skills to manage multiple tasks and

collaborate effectively, as well as experience managing projects

Required. Experience Administering And Managing VoIP Phone Systems And

components preferred. Working knowledge of various network monitoring

and network security tools preferred. Cisco CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA

Network+, or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE or equivalent

certifications preferred. Excellent oral and written communication, and

collaborative skills. Able to communicate technical topics to

non-technical audiences, as well as work with stakeholders across

various business units. Proven ability to operate and effectively

communicate while under pressure. Able to manage a diverse workload and

work under time constraints with minimal supervision. Must be able to

perform all essential functions of the job, including lifting up to 50

pounds. Must possess and maintain a valid State driver?s license and is

responsible to maintain all vehicles maintenance logs. Must work nights

and/or weekends when necessary.
