Job summary

City of Miami Beach is seeking a Senior Network Administrator to ensure the stability and integrity of the organization’s voice, data, video, and wireless networks. You will plan, design and develop LANs/WANs and participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of all network hardware and software.

The role requires strong network design, security, and vendor management skills, plus experience in server and e-mail infrastructure.

Qualifications

• College diploma or university degree in computer science, MIS, mathematics or related field.
• 6 years equivalent work experience.
• Certifications in Cisco CCNP required; CCIE certification is optional but highly recommended.

Job description

The Senior Network Administrator’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training, where required

• Writes system and security related programs involving administration of the network infrastructure as required
• Reviews system resources, performance and does maintenance on the network infrastructure as required
• Works with users to resolve network and server problems
• Assists System Administrators with installation of new network and server software upgrades as required
• Tests network and server software to determine its usefulness and integrity
• Reviews network security for problems
• Makes recommendations on Hardware, Software and LAN/WAN integration
• Recommends policies and procedures for systems and network access
• Performs related work as required
• Assists System Administrators with the management of servers, including e-mail, print and backup servers and their associated operating and software as required
• Manages security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems
• Manages all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPS devices
• Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
• Develops, implements and maintains policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery
• Monitors and tests network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports as required
• Recommends, schedules, and performs network improvements, upgrades, and repairs
• Manages and/or provides guidance to junior members of the team
• Designs and deploys company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPS’s, and other hardware
• Configures networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes
• Monitors network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed
• Collaborates with executive management and department leaders to assess near and long-term network capacity needs
• Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records
• Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices
• Ensures network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances
• Assists with management of servers, including database, e-mails, print and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software as required
• Develops, implements and maintains policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
• Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications and information
• Oversees new and existing equipment and hardware and software upgrades
• Participates in managing all network security solutions
• Performs server and security audits, and assists with system backups and recovery as required
• Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
• Manages and/or provides guidance to junior members of the team

• 6 years equivalent work experience
• Certifications in Cisco CCNP required
• CCIE certification is optional but highly recommended
• Additional related experience and/or current technical certifications may substitute for education on a year-for- year basis
