Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. in Phoenix seeks an Electrical Engineering Manager – NERC Compliance to provide technical leadership on NERC reliability and grid-integration for utility-scale renewables, with emphasis on inverter-based resources (IBRs) such as PV and BESS.

You will lead or review studies and coordinate with utilities and ISOs/RTOs from design through energization. You will develop and validate EMT models, ensure compliance with standards PRC-019/024/025/026/027,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems focus preferred).
• 8+ years of power systems engineering experience, incl. 3+ years on utility-scale projects with renewables/IBR exposure.
• Hands-on experience with power system analysis tools for load flow, short-circuit, and protection studies.
• Experience with NERC standards related to generator/IBR performance and modeling.
• Familiarity with inverter-based resources and plant-level controls for utility-scale PV and/or BESS.
• Direct experience developing and validating EMT models using PSSE/PSLF and PSCAD.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support NERC compliance activities for McCarthy renewable facilities focusing on PRC, MOD, TPL, and FAC standards applicable to IBRs and MV/HV systems.
• Plan, review, and document studies for NERC compliance (PRC-019/024/025/026/027; MOD-025/026/027/032).
• Develop or review models of PV, BESS, and hybrid plants in PSCAD or equivalent tools.
• Evaluate ride-through and reactive performance against grid codes; track corrective actions.
• Coordinate with Protection & Control, SCADA, and substation engineering to align settings and controls with NERC requirements.
• Support commissioning and post-energization activities by reviewing test plans and capturing evidence.
• Serve as a technical resource on NERC expectations and IBR modeling for project teams and clients.
