Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Support Engineer to join the ERO Support team and help ensure reliable electric grid operations. The role covers NERC standards, plant equipment knowledge, and coordination with generation facilities.

You will work with project managers and vendors, develop SME expertise for NERC standards, and participate in industry committees to advance standards development and compliance across the fleet.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required, Electrical Engineering preferred.
• Experience evaluating and complying with NERC standards is preferred.
• Knowledge of protective relaying applications and philosophy is essential.
• Familiarity with plant electrical equipment and generator voltage control.
• Broad knowledge of power plants and modeling techniques is expected.
• Strong communication with plant staff at all levels is required.
• Ability to assess risk and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.

Responsibilities

• Work within the ERO Support team to ensure no compliance violations.
• Collaborate with project managers and third-party vendors on new plant builds and retrofits.
• Be a role model technically and in customer interactions for other engineers.
• Participate in industry committees and drafting teams as appropriate.
• Provide support for technical issues and maintain proficiency in the stated areas.
• Cultivate and maintain contacts within the plant and Operations Compliance.
• Develop SME knowledge for assigned NERC standards.
