Job summary

Elmhurst Hospital is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) specializing in neonatology to join the Elmhurst, IL NICU team. The role supports delivery-room resuscitation, newborn diagnosis and ongoing care for late preterm infants, working autonomously with neonatology colleagues.

Requirements include IL licensure (APRN/PA), DEA and neonatal certifications (BLS/NRP/NCC). Experience in IP newborn care is highly preferred; the position offers flexible hours and 24/7 unit coverage.

Qualifications

• Master’s level training in a neonatal specialty required.
• Active IL APRN or PA license with DEA and CS license.
• BLS, NRP, and neonatal specialty certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical care to newborns in nursery/ICU during shifts.
• Maintain accurate medical records for each patient.
• Perform procedures (PPV, intubation, lines, chest tubes) as needed.
• Participate in quality improvement and policy development.
• Serve as clinical resource and participate in research as appropriate.

Position

Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) – Neonatology at Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, IL.

Compensation & Schedule

Hourly Pay Range: $57.76 - $80.86. Part‑time (average 20 hrs/week) or Full‑time (average 40 hrs/week). Hours flexible; unit staffed 24/7.

Job Overview

The position utilizes critical judgement in delivery‑room resuscitation, newborn diagnosis and management, and specialized long‑term care for late preterm infants. The provider functions autonomously and collaborates with neonatologists as part of the neonatal interdisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical care to newborn patients in the nursery and intensive care unit during scheduled shift.
• Maintain adequate medical records for each patient.
• Perform procedural tasks as needed (PPV, intubation, central lines, chest tubes, etc.).
• Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
• Collaborate in the development, review, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
• Participate in developing and implementing quality‑improvement monitoring.
• Act as a resource for clinical skills for staff.
• Engage in clinical research as appropriate.

Qualifications

• License: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant Associate (PAA) licensed in IL; Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License.
• Education: Master’s level program in specialty area.
• Certifications: BLS, NRP, and neonatal specialty certification (NCC for NP or clinical fellowship completion for PA).
• Experience: 5+ years in IP newborn (highly preferred) or other relevant acute‑care pediatric experience.

Special Knowledge & Skills

• Newborn airway management including intubation.
• Central line placement (umbilical and PCVC).
• Newborn chest tube placement.
• Proficient with equipment: monitors, small‑baby equipment, flow‑inflating bag, ventilators (HFJV, HFOV, cMV, NIMV, iNO, etc.), sterile procedures, therapeutic hypothermia.
