Job summary

NorthShore University HealthSystem in Elmhurst, IL seeks a Neonatal Pediatric Hospitalist to join our Level IIe newborn team. The physician will provide care in L&D, newborn nursery, and NICU during scheduled shifts, collaborating with neonatologists and the neonatal care team.

Candidates must have IL MD licensure, ABP qualifying, completed pediatric residency, and BLS/NRP. 5+ years of IP newborn experience preferred.

Qualifications

• IL medical license required.
• Completion of accredited pediatric residency or Master’s level program in specialty area required.
• BLS for Healthcare Provider and NRP certifications required.
• American Board of Pediatrics eligible.
• 5+ years of IP Newborn experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Providing medical care to newborn patients in L&D, newborn nursery, and NICU during scheduled shifts.
• Maintaining complete medical records for each patient.
• Performing procedures as needed (PPV, intubation, central lines, chest tubes).
• Participating in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
• Collaborating on policies and procedures development and review.
• Participating in QA monitoring initiatives.
• Serving as a clinical skills resource for staff.
• Engaging in opportunities for clinical research.

Education

Job description

As a Physician - Hospitalist, you will be an integral part of our hospital's medical team, responsible for the comprehensive care and management of patients during their hospital stay. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the well‑being and recovery of our patients.

Position Highlights

• Position: Neonatal Pediatric Hospitalist - Neonatology
• Location: Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, IL
• Full Time/Part Time: Full‑Time (average of 40 hours/wk.) Part‑time and Per Diem available; salary prorated!
• Salary: $162,000-$193,000. Pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors. Part‑time and Per Diem available; salary prorated!
• Hours: unit staffed 24/7, hours flexible
• Required Travel: n/a

Elmhurst Hospital is a Level IIe Special Care Nursery with over 3000 annual births. Our special care nursery provides private rooms for term infants need of transitional as well as long term care for late preterm infants. The Department of Neonatology is currently seeking a Neonatal Pediatric Hospitalist, who will work collaboratively with a neonatologist, as well as independently. The position utilizes critical judgement in the performance of delivery room resuscitation, common newborn diagnosis and management, as well as specialized long term care for late preterm infants. This individual will function autonomously, as well as a collaborating member of the neonatal interdisciplinary care team.

What you will need

Under the supervision of a physician:

• License: MD Licensure in the State of IL required; Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License required
• Education: Completion of accredited pediatric residency or Master's level program in specialty area
• Certification: BLS for Healthcare Provider and NRP certifications required.
• Certification in specialty: American Board of Pediatrics eligible
• Experience: 5+ years of IP Newborn (highly preferred); or other relevant acute care pediatric experience preferred

Special Knowledge and Skills Required

• Newborn airway management including intubation
• Central line placement (umbilical and PCVC)
• Newborn chest tube placement

Equipment Utilized within the Scope of the Position

• Stethoscope
• Monitors
• Small baby equipment
• Flow inflating bag
• Ventilators (HFJV, HFOV, cMV, NIMV, iNO, etc)
• Sterile procedures
• Therapeutic hypothermia

What you will do

• Providing appropriate medical care to newborn patients L&D, newborn nursery, and intensive care unit during his/her scheduled shift.
• Ensuring that an adequate medical record is maintained for each patient seen and treated during his/her shift.
• Provides appropriate procedural tasks as needed (PPV, intubation, central lines, chest tubes, etc).
• Participating in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
• Collaborating in the development, review and evaluation of policies and procedures.
• Participating in developing and implementing QI monitoring.
• Acting as a resource for clinical skills for staff.
• Understanding the opportunity to participate in clinical research.
