Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under supervision of a registered nurse. The role supports high-quality, cost-effective care and engages with patients and families to ensure a family-centered experience.

The position requires a high school diploma and Basic Life Support/HeartSaver First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort under theRN supervision.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and bed-making.
• Safely transports patients for tests and procedures and escorts for discharge.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services and basic glucose monitoring as allowed.
• Records vital signs and intake/output as per policy.
• Provides respiratory support and encourages use of spirometer as applicable.
• Observes and reports patient concerns to a registered nurse.
• Assists with examinations, procedures and basic rehab activities.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment and handles equipment repairs requests promptly.
• Answers calls and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
