Job summary

Axis Pipe and Tube is seeking an NDT Operator in Bryan, TX. The role performs ultrasonic testing of pipe products, with setup, calibration, operation, documentation, and routine maintenance of UT equipment to ensure compliance with customer specifications and API standards.

Responsibilities include UT testing, equipment configuration, data recording, and adherence to safety and quality policies. Requires UT Level I/II certification, HS diploma, and 2 years experience.

Qualifications

  • UT Level I or II Certification required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience or documented training.
  • Ability to read, interpret applicable specifications and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of hand-held measuring devices and inspection equipment.
  • English proficiency to perform duties and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasonic testing of pipe products per specs, codes, procedures and quality standards.
  • Set up, calibrate, and standardize UT equipment using reference standards.
  • Configure UT equipment for pipe size, product specs, and inspection requirements.
  • Conduct ultrasonic inspections of weld seams and pipe ends using UT equipment.
  • Evaluate results for acceptability per specs and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain inspection records, UT readouts, and daily quality reports.
  • Maintain 5S standards and routine equipment maintenance.

Position: NDT Operator

Job Summary: The NDT Operator performs ultrasonic testing (UT) and related non-destructive testing activities on pipe products to verify compliance with applicable customer specifications, API standards, and quality requirements. This position is responsible for the setup, calibration, operation, verification, documentation, and routine maintenance of ultrasonic testing equipment while ensuring safe operations and accurate inspection results throughout assigned testing locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform ultrasonic testing of pipe products in accordance with applicable specifications, codes, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Set up, prepare, calibrate, and standardize ultrasonic testing equipment using approved reference standards.
  • Configure UT equipment for the appropriate pipe size, product specification, and inspection requirements.
  • Conduct ultrasonic inspections of weld seams, pipe ends, or other assigned inspection areas using automated and/or portable ultrasonic testing equipment.
  • Evaluate inspection results to determine product acceptability in accordance with applicable specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Verify, prove-up, or further evaluate ultrasonic indications using portable or secondary ultrasonic testing equipment as required.
  • Operate conveyors and other material handling equipment to position pipe through assigned inspection stations when applicable.
  • Prepare, maintain, and organize inspection records, UT readouts, prove-up documentation, daily reports, and other required quality records.
  • Maintain daily inspection checklists and perform routine operator maintenance to keep ultrasonic equipment in proper working condition.
  • Identify equipment abnormalities and report maintenance or operational issues to supervision.
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards within assigned work areas.
  • Safely handle reference standards, measuring instruments, and inspection equipment.
  • Utilize measuring devices, gauges, and inspection tools as required to support testing and verification activities.
  • Follow all company safety policies, quality procedures, API requirements, and applicable work instructions.
  • Assist with troubleshooting inspection issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • UT Level I or II Certification required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience or documented training applicable to the assigned position.
  • Working knowledge of ultrasonic testing principles, equipment setup, calibration, and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to interpret applicable specifications, inspection procedures, and acceptance criteria.
  • Working knowledge of hand-held measuring devices, micrometers, measuring tapes, go/no-go gauges, thickness gauges, depth gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Moderate to advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and other production or quality software as required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties and follow safety requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively.
  • Frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
