Job summary

Skilled Manufacturing Inc in Traverse City, MI seeks an NDT FPI Trainee to learn non-destructive testing and penetrant inspection techniques. You will document results, learn certifications, and participate in audits while supporting production and safety standards.

The role includes a structured OJT program with hours toward L1/L2, a retention bonus, and company benefits. This is a full-time, on-site position with growth into certified inspection roles.

Qualifications

• Pass annual eye exam to 20/25 Snellen and color perception in at least one eye.
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required.
• 1 year manufacturing experience preferred, not required.
• Complete required OJT to progress from Trainee to L1/L2.
• Obtain 130 OJT hours for L1 and 270 additional hours for L2.
• Obtain experience under direct observation of experienced inspectors.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) using Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) to standards.
• Daily use of inspection materials and equipment meeting customer procedures.
• Assist production in material and job setup.
• Participate in NADCAP, customer, and internal audits as assigned.
• Interface with customers/auditors regarding penetrant testing at certification levels.
• Complete exams and on-the-job training per SMI process.
• Follow safety rules, maintain clean and safe workspace.
• Other duties as assigned; may require overtime or weekends.
