Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) seeks an NDT Development Engineer to advance inspection capabilities and integrate new technologies at our Lynchburg, Virginia site. You will collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to plan, test, and document new methods for production processes, ensuring high quality and reliability.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in physics or engineering, strong communication, and the ability to work independently or with a team. U.S.

Responsibilities

• Investigate new technologies and methods of manufacture/inspections for potential application to production processes.
• Propose new work to expand inspection/process capabilities.
• Interact with customers to promote good working relationships and understanding of customer requirements.
• Develop and maintain inspection/process capabilities.
• Lead collaborative efforts between customers, suppliers, cross-department, and divisions.
• Plan and manage multiple development projects by preparing instructions, drawings, and routing documents.
• Prepare customer submittals to communicate detailed information and plans for new systems or systems upgrades.
• Author reports documenting process/material testing and well-engineered solutions to problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned (off shift/weekend support, etc.).

Your Day To Day As An NDT Development Engineer

• Investigate new technologies and methods of manufacture/inspections for potential application to production processes.
• Propose new work to expand inspection/process capabilities.

• Work with customers to investigate and acquire new technologies which can expand current inspections.
• Lead collaborative efforts between customers, suppliers, cross-department, and divisions.
• Plan and manage multiple development projects by preparing instructions, drawings, and routing documents.
• Prepare customer submittals to communicate detailed information and plans for new systems or systems upgrades.
• Author reports documenting process/material testing and well-engineered solutions to problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned (off shift/weekend support, etc.).

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a physics or engineering (electrical, software, or mechanical engineering discipline, etc.) is required.
• Must be proficient with MS Office products.
• Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Must have demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as a part of a collaborative team.
• Must have proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
• Must be self-motivated with strong organizational skills and work ethic.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in NDT systems is preferred (e.g., X-ray, CT, etc.)

Pay:

$70,000.00 - $103,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $70,000.00 and $103,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
