Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Lynchburg, Virginia, is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and support custom automated manufacturing and inspection systems. You will develop software for both new and existing applications and work with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable operation.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or CS with 4+ years of experience, proficiency in VB/C#/C, and the ability to obtain a U.S. DOE clearance.

Your Day to Day as a Software Engineer:

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, build, and support of new and existing custom automated manufacturing and inspection systems used in the Lynchburg manufacturing facility. The selected candidate will perform software development for both new and existing applications and automated systems.

• Work cooperatively with teams of engineers (mechanical, electrical and software) and internal customers to design, build, maintain, and upgrade custom automated process control and data acquisition systems that support manufacturing, quality control, and other plant operations.
• Develop software applications for automated equipment/systems including motion control, data acquisition, databases interactions, and operator interfaces using .Net or CVI on Windows based platforms.
• Develop vision system and other post inspection analysis applications.
• Integrate applications/systems with third-party hardware and software.
• Generate and execute system and software test plans and develops user manuals for the system/machine.
• Support engineers and technicians in the assembly, installation, trouble-shooting, maintenance, and upgrade of new and existing systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Computer Science if granted through a college of engineering AND four (4) years of relevant experience is required.
• Must have demonstrable knowledge of, or be willing to develop, the following software skills:
  • VB, C#, C
  • Motion Control (Delta Tau/Omron, Galil, Rockwell)
  • Image Analysis (National Instruments, Halcon, Matrox)
  • Git, TFS/Azure Devops
• Additional knowledge or previous experience in software development and/or with automation/automated equipment/systems is a plus.
• Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
• Must be able to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Pay: $86,450.00- $136,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $86,450.00 and $136,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
