Job summary

Actalent in Wichita, KS is seeking an NC Programmer to develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs for multi-axis aerospace components using CATIA v5 or Mastercam. The role demands five-axis programming expertise and strong interpretation of technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reports and procedure manuals related to CNC programming.
  • Apply geometry, trig, fractions, and proportions to machining problems.

Job Description

This NC Programmer role focuses on developing, modifying, and optimizing CNC programs for multi-axis machining equipment used to produce precision-machined aerospace components. The position requires strong expertise in CATIA v5 or Mastercam, extensive experience with five-axis CNC programming, and the ability to interpret complex technical documentation. You will support manufacturing operations by creating efficient programs, coordinating program start-ups, and continuously improving machining processes to enhance quality, reduce costs, and meet strict deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Write and modify CNC programs and detailed instruction sheets for multi-axis machined parts, ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Coordinate CNC program start-ups in the manufacturing area and provide on-the-floor support during initial runs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting machining and programming issues and recommend appropriate cutting tools and machining strategies.
  • Monitor the performance of CNC programs after implementation and make adjustments to improve quality, cycle time, and tool life.
  • Evaluate requests for new or modified CNC programs, determining technical feasibility, cost implications, and time estimates.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date program files, documentation, and revision histories.
  • Analyze and review existing CNC programs and recommend modifications to increase operating efficiency, reduce costs, and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Adapt programs and processes to meet new or changing customer requirements, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Interpret customer blueprints, specifications, purchase orders, tooling concepts, manufacturing processes, technical procedures, and operating instructions to develop accurate machining solutions.
  • Prepare clear reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals related to CNC programming and process improvements.
  • Apply mathematical concepts, including plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, to practical machining and programming situations.
  • Work independently to manage priorities, meet strict deadlines, and support a growing manufacturing operation.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum three years of hands-on experience using CATIA v5 to program machining equipment for precision-machined parts, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • More than three years of previous experience programming five-axis CNC machines, plus at least two years of machining experience preferred.
  • Minimum three years of previous work experience as a CNC Programmer.
  • Proficiency with CATIA v5 or Mastercam for CNC programming and extensive experience with computer modeling software.
  • Strong CNC programming skills for both five-axis and three-axis machining centers.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret customer blueprints, specifications, purchase orders, tooling concepts, manufacturing processes, technical procedures, and operating instructions.
  • Ability to write clear reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, and the ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to real-world machining problems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • College degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering environments is beneficial.
  • Background in machining and tooling selection for precision aerospace components.
  • Familiarity with both 5-axis and 3-axis CNC machining strategies.
  • Ability to contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing manufacturing costs.

Work Environment

This role operates in a precision manufacturing environment that supports the production of complex, multi-axis machined parts for aerospace applications. You will work closely with machining operations, using CATIA v5 and other computer modeling tools to develop and refine CNC programs. The position involves regular interaction with production personnel, engineering documentation, and technical specifications in a shop and office setting. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Wichita, KS.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $90000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
