Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat seeks a technical writer to research, write, and publish system-level descriptions and procedures for submarine classes. You will collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines, illustrators, and supervision to develop new or revised descriptive chapters and maintenance procedures.

The role involves working with IETMs and publishing tools, interpreting diagrams and drawings, and ensuring high quality, precise documentation that supports naval platforms.

Qualifications

• Requires DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of writing experience or military experience.
• Experience with XML/SGML and electronic publishing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop system- and component-level technical descriptions and procedures for submarine systems.
• Coordinate with engineers, illustrators, and supervision to create/update manuals.
• Produce interactive electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using publishing software.
• Read and interpret fluid and electrical diagrams and ship drawings.
• Maintain accuracy and ownership across development phases.
