Job summary

Caribou Thunder is hiring a Shipboard Installer I to join our modification team. You will install electrical and communications cabling aboard active U.S. Navy vessels in Chesapeake, VA, Mayport, FL, and San Diego, CA, with substantial travel and a pathway toward DoD Secret clearance.

Expect collaborative work with experienced crews to ensure safe, compliant installations that meet NAVSEA requirements. The role emphasizes fabricating and testing cables, reading complex drawings, and applying

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • 0–4 years of related industrial, shipyard, electrical, mechanical, installation, or military experience.
  • Ability to install, remove, route, and finalize cables aboard US Navy vessels.
  • Ability to fabricate, terminate, and assemble cables and connectors following drawings and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret installation drawings, work packages, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using common shipboard installation and repair hand tools.
  • Ability to work safely in industrial shipyard and shipboard environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and navigate ladder wells aboard ships.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and obtain/maintain DoD Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, route, and secure electrical and communication cabling aboard US Navy ships.
  • Prepare and finalize cableways per Navy standards and drawings.
  • Fabricate, terminate, and test cables and connectors meeting NAVSEA requirements.
  • Interpret installation drawings and work packages for accurate equipment placement.
  • Use hand and power tools to complete installation tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with experienced technicians, supervisors, and engineers on modernization projects.
  • Maintain NAVSEA quality assurance and shipyard safety procedures.
  • Work in confined spaces and shipboard environments.
  • Assist with troubleshooting installation discrepancies during inspections or testing.
  • Travel to shipyards and naval installations across the US for scheduled modernization and maintenance.
  • Contribute to a team delivering high-quality workmanship on schedule.
