Job summary

General Dynamics IT is seeking a Ship Fitter to support waterfront shipboard construction and modernization aboard U.S. Naval ships. The role involves installing, maintaining, repairing, overhauling, and testing mechanical equipment, working in shipyards and drydocks in variable temperatures.

Candidates typically hold an Associates degree in a related technical discipline and 1–3 years of related experience; US citizenship is required. TAC welding certification may be required.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, certifications or training, or work experience.
• 1–3 years of directly related experience supporting engineering operations.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, troubleshoots, modifies, constructs, and tests mechanical equipment and related devices.
• Troubleshoots and corrects structural placement.
• Makes recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems.
• Provides operation and maintenance instruction to customer personnel.
• Performs preventative maintenance.
• Participates in special projects as required.
