Job summary

HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division seeks a Naval Architecture Manager to lead a team of engineers and designers in Pascagoula, MS. The role requires directing multidisciplinary efforts, ensuring technical rigor, and coordinating with Navy leadership and customers on complex ship design and construction programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school and 6 years of progressive technical experience.
  • A Master’s of Science degree in Engineering is preferred with 4 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse group of engineers and designers; provide objective-oriented direction to subordinates.
  • Oversee scheduling, performance, and success of multiple naval engineering projects such as Translations, Mooring, Dry Docking, Blocking, Ship Stability, Longitudinal Strength, Tank Capacity Curves, and Heavy Lifts.
  • Maintain naval architecture technical requirements and calculation methodologies.
  • Frequent contacts with internal personnel and external customers; conduct technical briefings and discussions with customers.

The Role
  • This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.
  • Naval Architecture Manager will be responsible for a diverse group of engineers and designers.
  • The manager will be a front line management representative and responsible for providing objective-oriented direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines and general policies.
  • Additionally, manager will be responsible for supervisory personnel tasks including employee evaluations, training, growth, mentoring, and disciplinary actions.
  • Responsible for scheduling, performance, and success of Ingalls Shipbuilding Incline Experiments, Translations, Mooring, Dry Docking, Blocking, Ship Stability, Longitudinal Strength, Tank Capacity Curves, and Heavy Lifts.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in Naval Architecture technical requirements and calculation methodologies.
  • Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling of projects.
  • Conducts technical briefings and discussions with internal and external customers.
Must Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent.
  • A Master's of Science degree in Engineering and professional registration with 4 years of relevant experience are preferred.
Nice to Have
  • Fluent understanding of Ship Specifications in all areas of Naval Architecture.
  • Advanced level of understanding in Naval Architecture (Inline Experiments, Translations, Mooring, Dry Docking, Blocking, Ship Stability, Longitudinal Strength, Tank Capacity Curves, and Heavy Lifts).
  • Experience with SHCP, GHS, and Sea Trials.
  • Superior communication skills, including past experience with interfacing with Operations and the Navy Leadership experience with small to large projects.
  • Formal Leadership training is preferred.
  • A good understanding of EVMS Experience in creating a plan including estimating, budget allocation, process development and schedule creation.
