Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking a Naval Architecture Manager to lead a diverse team of engineers and designers. You will provide frontline management, direction, mentoring, and oversee scheduling, performance, and the success of projects across Naval Architecture disciplines.

You will oversee staff development and ensure adherence to technical requirements, quality standards, and safety policies in all naval design activities.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 6 years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Master's degree in Engineering with 4 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise engineers and designers, providing objective-oriented direction.
  • Coordinate scheduling, performance, and project success across Naval Architecture tasks.
  • Interface with internal managers and external customers for project alignment.

The Role

This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical. Naval Architecture Manager will be responsible for a diverse group of engineers and designers. The manager will be a front line management representative and responsible for providing objective-oriented direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines and general policies. Additionally, manager will be responsible for supervisory personnel tasks including employee evaluations, training, growth, mentoring, and disciplinary actions. Responsible for scheduling, performance, and success of Ingalls Shipbuilding Incline Experiments, Translations, Mooring, Dry Docking, Blocking, Ship Stability, Longitudinal Strength, Tank Capacity Curves, and Heavy Lifts. Experienced and knowledgeable in Naval Architecture technical requirements and calculation methodologies. Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling of projects. Conducts technical briefings and discussions with internal and external customers.

Must Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent.
  • A Master's of Science degree in Engineering and professional registration with 4 years of relevant experience are preferred.
Nice to Have
  • Fluent understanding of Ship Specifications in all areas of Naval Architecture.
  • Advanced level of understanding in Naval Architecture (Inline Experiments, Translations, Mooring, Dry Docking, Blocking, Ship Stability, Longitudinal Strength, Tank Capacity Curves, and Heavy Lifts).
  • Experience with SHCP, GHS, and Sea Trials.
  • Superior communication skills, including past experience with interfacing with Operations and the Navy Leadership experience with small to large projects.
  • Formal Leadership training is preferred.
  • A good understanding of EVMS Experience in creating a plan including estimating, budget allocation, process development and schedule creation.
