Job summary

The U.S. Coast Guard in Washington, DC is seeking a Naval Architect (GS-0871-13) to review vessel designs, calculations and plans for compliance with Coast Guard and international standards.

This Federal position is located at the Marine Safety Center in Washington, DC. You will assess stability, structural adequacy, fire protection, lifesaving, pollution and safety aspects, providing technical support to engineers, owners, operators and inspectors while representing MSC in national forums and

Qualifications

• Requires education in naval architecture or marine engineering.
• Experience reviewing vessel designs and calculations for regulatory compliance.
• Familiarity with Coast Guard and international standards.

Responsibilities

• Review specifications, plans, and calculations for passenger, towing, cargo/industrial, tank, tank barge and offshore supply vessels.
• Provide technical support to MSC staff engineers, ship owners, operators, and inspectors.
• Interpret and advise on applicable laws, regulations and standards for various vessel types.
• Represent MSC at national meetings with agencies, societies and standard organizations.
