Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Uncrewed Systems (UxS) seeks a Naval Architect/Marine Engineer to lead MUSV design, analysis, and integration efforts. You will coordinate with autonomy, C2, electrical, and mechanical teams to ensure unmanned vessel performance and reliability.

Responsibilities include overseeing shipyard activities, translating SOWs into specifications, and supporting test plans and demonstrations. Travel and DoD clearance are expected as part of this role.

Qualifications

• 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or closely related field.
• 5+ years experience in shipyard construction, vessel design, or marine engineering.
• Working knowledge of ABS rules, ISO standards, and naval/marine classification requirements applicable to MUSV construction.
• Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, 3D models, test procedures, and technical data packages.
• Willingness to travel (20–40%).

Responsibilities

• Perform routine naval architecture work on hull, weight, stability, hydrodynamic, maneuvering and seakeeping characteristics for MUSV designs.
• Translate MUSV SOW requirements into specifications, interface documentation, and design baselines.
• Provide engineering oversight during shipyard construction or conversion activities; monitor progress and verify quality.
• Collaborate with autonomy, C2, electrical, and mechanical teams to ensure vessel design supports unmanned operation.
• Develop test vessel descriptions, test plans, and engineering procedures for MUSV prototype demonstrations.
• Participate in major milestone events and risk identification/mitigation related to design maturity and manufacturability.
